Job Summary

The TVA Fixed Wing pilot supports domestic and occasional international flight operations of TV A. These missions include executive travel and support for TVA power production. Serves as pilot-in-command (PIC) or second-in-command (SIC) of turbine and piston powered aircraft. Manages all aspects of the mission in coordination with Aircraft Scheduling and department management to ensure safety, exceptional customer service and efficient operation of the TVA aircraft. Maintains full understanding of technical flight procedures and federal regulations, with capacity to execute duties quickly under stressful or emergency situations.

Supports TVAs dedication of service to the people of the Tennessee Valley through its core missions of: Energy, Environmental Stewardship and Economic Development.

Serves as pilot in command. Provides oversight of second-pilot in command.

Plan and execute flights in a safe and professional manner ensuring compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations, TVA SPPs, and TVA Aviation Operations Manual. Commands the aircraft and is responsible for the safety of the aircraft, its passengers, crew and cargo.

Reviews assigned flight schedule prior to departure day; plans routing and fuel requirements, coordinates trip logistics for crewmembers as required; reviews all NOTAMs and weather forecasting products; performs pre?flight checks; files flight plans; applies Operational Risk Management to all assigned flights; adheres to safety management system; supervises refueling and servicing; completes all post?flight documentation.

Exhibits and demonstrates airmanship, sound decision making, and flight discipline to ensure air worthiness of aircraft and safety of passengers and crew.

Maintains a thorough working knowledge of the equipment operated, FARs governing the operation of equipment, manuals, policies, procedures, and airfield information.

Obtains and interprets weather observations and forecasts and makes decisions which affect the safety of the operation.

Monitors the airplanes position, weather conditions and air traffic regularly during the flight and adjusts flight paths as needed to ensure safety and promote effective crew resource management.

Maintains flight manifest confidentiality.

Effectively presents information and responds appropriately to questions from executive leadership, aviation management, flight scheduling, passengers, and air traffic control as necessary.

Responsible for notifying passengers of operational factors impacting operation of the flight.

Demonstrates professional conduct at all times while on duty and observes the TVA Employee Handbook and responsibilities as outlined in the Flight Operations Manual and any related policies and procedures.

Supervision Received

Supervision and guidance are provided by the department manager and are generally limited to overall objectives, general guidelines, and work priorities. Incumbent plans and executes the work with minimal supervision in accordance with TVAs Aviation Operations Manual, Federal Aviation Regulations, and Airmans Information Manual.

Skills and Proficiencies

The pilot must maintain daytime, nighttime, and instrument currency and proficiency in the aircraft assigned in accordance with the Federal Aviation Regulations. The pilot must possess piloting skills necessary to accomplish all TVA aviation programs assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

(Consistent with Classification Standard)

High school diploma with some college or equivalent in experience required. Four?year college degree preferred.

Must hold a current Class II Medical Certificate. Must be able to obtain a Class I Medical Certificate. Must hold an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license with a multi?engine land rating. A highly qualified candidate will possess a CE?560XL type rating. Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Instrument Instructor (CFII) certification is preferred. An additional Commercial Rotorcraft license is preferred.

Must have total flight time of 1500 hours of which 750 hours must be in turbine?powered fixed?wing aircraft. PIC time of 1000 hours of which 500 hours must be in turbine?powered multi?engine fixed?wing aircraft. Must have 250 hours in turbine?powered multi?engine fixed?wing aircraft in the previous 24 months. A military sortie conversion is authorized to meet flight time requirements. Previous aircraft type ratings or other indicators of rigorous and formalized flight training such as military flight experience is preferred. Previous Jet experience is preferred. Must be able to travel as needed to support domestic and international flight operations (approximately 20% overnight travel annually).
