Join to apply for the Instructional Coach - Literacy role at New Haven Public Schools 3 weeks ago Be among the first 25 applicants Join to apply for the Instructional Coach - Literacy role at New Haven Public Schools REPORTS TO : Supervisor of Elementary Reading and Language Arts Position Summary Under the direction of the Supervisor of Elementary Reading and Language Arts, the Literacy Coach ensures students receive high-quality literacy instruction by providing teachers in a school building guidance, leadership, expertise and professional development through modeling lessons, observations and feedback sessions, data analysis, and more to improve student achievement. The Literacy Coach serves as the literacy content expert and provides support on curriculum, instruction, and assessment working closely with the administration in a school. The Literacy Coach takes a hands-on approach to improving instruction and effectiveness by working at various levels (classroom, school, district-wide) to directly support instruction, intervention, and English Language Development for all students, including students with disabilities and multilingual learners. Duties And Responsibilities School Leadership Facilitates Professional Development Communities Meets regularly with Administrators to discuss literacy practices, goals, and outcomes Oversees and supports ongoing literacy assessments across all literacy classrooms Collects data, analyzes data, and keeps comprehensive records on student progress to facilitate progress monitoring Assesses and communicates classroom needs for instructional materials, and focused student support, to allocate resources and determine professional development and coaching needs Communicates with Literacy Team on schoolwide literacy progress Designs, presents, and facilitates adult learning experiences through ongoing, embedded, targeted professional development Instructional Support Assists administrators, teachers, and appropriate staff in effectively implementing the CSDE Language Arts and NHPS Literacy Curriculum Frameworks Works cooperatively with teachers (inclusive of Special Education and Bilingual) to support literacy development and curriculum implementation Develops and leads professional development (in various formats) to staff for improving literacy instruction on the 7 Components of Reading Models exemplary lessons for teachers and provides assessment strategies for literacy development Develops and supports reading intervention plans for at-risk students in the SRBI/RTI process Teaches one intervention group daily Assists teachers in effectively using educational technology for literacy instruction Provides professional development and classroom support on lesson design and best practices for literacy Utilizes best practice and knowledge of appropriate content and curriculum alignment to assist teachers in closing the achievement gap Assist school professionals in interpreting student achievement data and designing approaches to improve instruction and student learning outcomes Departmental Support Works to stay current in best literacy practices Collaborates closely with other Elementary Reading Personnel in school and district Participates in all literacy programs and curriculum development activities Attends all required meetings and training Completes all required paperwork on schedule; IRP, Data Tracker, etc. Performs other duties as required by the Supervisor Family Support Confers with parents, teachers, administrators, and other appropriate staff on all matters related to student achievement in literacy Assists parents in improving home-school connection in literacy

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Five years of successful teaching experience Knowledge of research-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices Knowledge of Common Core and Smarter Balanced Assessment Experience using instructional technology to support teaching and learning, curriculum development, staff training, and program and student accountability Outstanding organizational skills and close attention to detail; outstanding written and oral communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to change quickly, and meet deadlines Proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one's work Strong interpersonal and communication skills as it relates to instructional practice Commitment to the belief that all students can learn, to educational equity, and the vision and mission of New Haven Public Schools Certification / Endorsement Requirements Valid teaching certification Remedial Reading and Remedial Language Arts 1-12(102), Reading Consultant Language Arts (097), or Reading Consultant K-8 (096) SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-Month work year. New Haven Federation of Teachers Salary contingent on degree and years of experience: $49,283 - $102,797 EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by the Supervisor of Elementary Reading and Language Arts or Supervisor of Secondary English Language Arts NOTE: The above description covers the principal duties and responsibilities of the job.
