WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Reviews, evaluates, and decisions simple to complex mortgage and home equity loan files using the internal Underwriting Standards, as well as general FNMA, FHLMC, and Rural Development underwriting guidelines, to determine the creditworthiness of the applicant. Reviews and analyzes high-value and intricate mortgage loan applications, including but not limited to, jumbo loans, construction loans, and loans for self-employed borrowers with non-traditional income sources and provides clear direction to team members with regard to pre-close and at close underwriting conditions. Stays current on all FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, selling guide and policy updates. Acts as a subject matter expert communicating with Mortgage Loan Originators, Processing, and Closing regarding decisions, exception requests, and loan scenarios. Understands current regulations in Real Estate Lending and apply these regulations to the Underwriting process. Makes recommendations for exceptions to loan policy. Assists with the development of policies and procedures for loan activities. Maintains timeliness for reviewing files and providing decisioning. Ensures lending decisions are completed in accordance with established policies and procedures and related legal requirements. Helps conduct quality control reviews to ensure consistency and accuracy across the team.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

College degree in Business, Finance or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and work experience.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Three to five years of underwriting or related experience, including preparatory experience.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Must have a demonstrated ability to keep finances in order. Sound credit judgment and math ability. Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills. Be self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision. Handle issues with tact, diplomacy, and an appropriate sense of urgency. Good attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. Exceptional problem-solving skills.
