Overview We are seeking a talented Motion Graphics Designer / Editor to join a high-profile visual news team on a contract basis. This hybrid role in NYC blends creativity and storytelling with fast-paced, editorially driven work. You'll collaborate with reporters, editors, designers, and developers to craft compelling motion content—from quick-turn explainers to long-form features—that informs and engages audiences across digital platforms. The ideal candidate is a visual storyteller with strong design sensibility, technical expertise, and a passion for pushing creative boundaries within a newsroom setting. This is a 5-month contract opportunity, hybrid in NYC-Midtown area, 40 hours weekly. Responsibilities Design and produce high-quality motion graphics, animations, and visual storytelling elements for news features, enterprise stories, and special editorial projects. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including designers, developers, editors, and reporters to transform complex ideas into accessible, visually compelling stories. Support the creation of short-form explainers, long-form features, and innovative storytelling formats. Help develop and maintain visual treatments that reflect a commitment to excellence, innovation, and brand consistency. Conceptualize and produce animations for interactive storytelling experiences. Ensure consistency of motion graphic storytelling aligned with the broader editorial vision and creative direction. Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years of professional experience in motion graphics and animation stemming from an ad agency, in-house brand, or creative department. Strong portfolio showcasing motion design, animation, and digital storytelling. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop). Experience working in deadline-driven environments with complex projects. Strong editorial sensibility and an understanding of visual journalism. Ability to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Nice-to-Haves Experience working in a newsroom or editorial environment. Familiarity with 3D and/or real-time rendering software.
