Job Description

A waiter in a 5-star hotel delivers an exceptional, personalized, and discreet fine dining experience, requiring polished service skills, extensive menu knowledge, and impeccable presentation. They are a key part of ensuring every guest interaction reflects the hotel's luxury standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Guest Experience & Service: Greet and seat guests warmly, providing attentive, world-class service throughout their dining experience. This includes anticipating guest needs before they arise.
  • Menu Expertise & Sales: Possess comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of all food and beverage items, including ingredients, preparation methods, daily specials, and drink pairings. Use suggestive selling and upselling techniques subtly to enhance the guest's experience and maximize revenue.
  • Order Management: Accurately take food and drink orders, noting any special requests, dietary restrictions, or allergies, and communicate these details clearly to the kitchen and bar staff using a Point of Sale (POS) system or manual methods.
  • Service & Presentation: Deliver food and beverages promptly with attention to presentation and quality, ensuring dishes and kitchenware meet the hotel's high standards. Execute formal service techniques (e.g., silver service) where required.
  • Dining Area Maintenance: Prepare and set tables with clean linens, silverware, and glasses before service, and maintain a tidy and organized dining area and workstation throughout the shift.
  • Payment Processing: Present itemized bills and process various payment methods (cash, credit card, room charge) accurately and efficiently.
  • Team Collaboration & Standards: Work closely with the kitchen, bar, and other F&B staff to ensure a smooth flow of service. Adhere strictly to all hotel policies, brand standards, and health and safety regulations.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous experience (typically a minimum of one to two years) in a fine dining restaurant or luxury hotel environment is highly preferred.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written English skills are essential, with additional languages considered a significant advantage when catering to diverse international guests.
  • Professionalism & Etiquette: Impeccable personal grooming, a professional and confident demeanor, and a positive attitude are mandatory for maintaining the hotel's image.
  • Soft Skills: Strong customer service, attention to detail, time management, problem-solving skills, and the ability to remain calm and composed under pressure are crucial.
  • Physical Stamina: The role requires physical endurance to stand, walk for long periods, and carry heavy trays of food and beverages.
