About Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i

Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to support and promote Hawai‘i’s 51 public libraries.

Hiring and oversight: The Bookstore Staff is hired and supervised by the Executive Director. While all duties are performed under the direction of the Executive Director, the employee for this position shall be willing to take initiative and work independently.

General Responsibility: Responsible for the staff coverage of the bookstore including open/close and daily operation administration, cashier, door monitor, restocking, volunteer management, as well as assume other duties as needed.

Functions

  1. Open/Close Administation: Responsible for the security of the bookstore premises and cash handling.

    1. Responsible for maintaining possession of the store keys.
    2. Prep the starting cash and point-of-sale for store opening.
    3. Complete the end-of-day reporting and cash count.
    4. Secure the cash and the store premises at the end of day.
  2. Daily Operations: Maintain the bookstore.

    1. Online orders pick up administration.
    2. Input stock replenishment requests through the electronic shared files.
    3. Stock removal requests reports through the point-of-sale and the storage of removed inventory.
    4. Restocking and organizing inventory in an orderly and attractive display.
    5. Daily store upkeep including dusting, vacuuming, trash, and other general cleaning and organizing.
  3. Volunteer Management: Provide support for volunteers.

    1. Oversee volunteer check-in & prep them for success.
    2. Assist volunteers in their assigned functions.
    3. Problem-solving volunteer issues that may arise.
  4. Customer Service: Provide knowledgeable and friendly customer service.

    1. Assist customers with the sale of books & media.
    2. Operate the computer Point-of-Sale system including cash register functions.
    3. Perform greeting duties as needed including the count of customers and enforcing general safety measures.
    4. Problem-solving customer issues that may arise.
  5. Accept additional responsibility as experience grows and as delegated by the ED.

Academic Requirements

  • College degree preferred

Availability Requirements

  • Must be available on weekdays and weekends

  • Occasional need to work flexible hours
  • Able to lift 30 pounds
